The Saturday walk will begin and end at the Charleston Civic Design Center and will focus on the beauty and walkability of Charleston. We will also celebrate the city's unique neighborhoods and examine its civic projects. The walk will be led by Dr. Nathaniel Walker, professor of urban studies at the College of Charleston.
Our Jane Jacobs Walks are nationally registered with the Center for the Living City: http://www.janejacobswalk.org/2018-walks/civic-charleston-walk
This event is co-sponsored by the College of Charleston’s new Community Planning, Policy and Design master’s degree program and the Charleston Preservation Society.
Weekend of Jane Jacobs
In order to elevate community dialogue on urban design issues in the city, the City of Charleston's Design Division is organizing four events over four days to celebrate the work and life of Jane Jacobs on her birthday weekend (Thursday May 3rd- Sunday May 6th). Partner organizations, civic leaders, community stakeholders and urbanists will assist in the planning, organizing and leading of the events in various ways. All events are located, or will begin/end, at the Charleston Civic Design Center, which is located at 85 Calhoun Street.
All events are free and open to the public. We strongly encourage your participation in these civic engagements.
