Huger Street is intended as a primary east-west connector for bicycle movement. Phase 1 project limits span from Meeting Street to Morrison Street. Phase 1 is being funded, designed and implemented by SCDOT and administered by our Capital Projects team through the state LPA process. 

This segment is a design challenge due to its limited right-of-way (only 50 feet). The limited space has made bikeway design very difficult and has stretched the timeline of the project significantly. There are numerous trade-offs involved between dedicated bike lanes, automobile turn lanes, sufficiently sized-sidewalks, and on-street parking. Design Division anticipates working with SCDOT to secure design exemptions to allow for the concept design illustrated in this Project Sheet. (Click the image to download a PDF.)
